Suo Moto Case Filed Over Viral Photo of Actor Darshan Smoking in Parappana Agrahara Jail: Reports
Bengaluru: A suo moto case has been registered regarding the viral photo of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa drinking coffee and smoking a cigarette in Parappana Agrahara jail, where he is lodged in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, according the sources.
Following photograph going viral, the jail authorities have initiated an investigation. The Director General of Prisons, Malini Krishnamurthy, has ordered an inquiry into the matter, said sources.
It has been reported that she has now instructed officials to provide a complete report on the incident. Consequently, it is said that police officials will be visiting Parappana Agrahara jail.
There is a clear dereliction of duty on the part of jail authorities. Therefore, a suo moto case has been registered. Verbal instructions have already been given by senior officials of the Prison Department to conduct an investigation and submit a report. Senior officials of the Prison Department have given instructions to the jail authorities regarding this matter, reported local news outlets.
The alleged photograph also includes the infamous history-sheeter ‘Wilson Garden’ Naga, dressed in a black t-shirt, along with Darshan’s manager Nagaraj, and a fourth unidentified individual.
Naga, who is wanted in connection with numerous serious offenses, has been arrested under the strict provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA), 2022. This law allows for imprisonment without the possibility of bail for up to five years.
